i drew this heart in the sand on sunday at my favorite beach running spot near my home. and last night i returned and snuck over to take a peek to see if my heart was still there. it was! and being sweetly kissed by the setting sun. the remnant pulled at my heart strings quite a lot.

i finally got to see the man, mr. hawthorne live. such a random venue seeing him at a shopping mall. but, he was great alongside his adorable band. a humbling experience i'm sure, but they're good midwestern peeps and were so gracious. i really liked it and look forward to seeing them another time soon. well, when its dark and id's are required.

we had a super time at the oh joy (i heart her!) event at urbanic last night. champaign was a flowin' and baby cupcakes from the frosted cupcakery (a local favorite of mine) were plentiful in the backyard of this charming paper boutique of goodness. my bff & i giggled our way through the photo booth which some how broke down after our pics were shot? so, this capture is our second time around and we're lookin' kinda orange but oh well, i think its swell. we had a ball! and yes, i came out with way too many colorful, paper filled goodies + a rad little tee i wore right outta the store. oh, and audrey, the owner of urbanic, is as lovely as a gal can be!!!
ah, and we met jen & jamie of ban.do who are as sparkly in person as their designs. then off to zanzibar we went to celebrate fela kuti & danced the darned night away!!!

everyone who knows me, knows i'm a bag FANatic. yeah, no its a problem! i can't get enough, never satiated. and i'm a total sucker for delicious, ethnic fabrics & modern design. so, you can imagine my excitement when i discovered proud mary while shopping in brooklyn. my heart seriously skipped a beat when i saw the raya tote. and when i found out that this textile business was one supporting artisans in third world countries, a savy little company designing with a conscious, well, it was all OVER!!! i bought 3 bags and i'm thinking the diamante tote screams beachy holiday gifting to me.
i've dreamt of this concept since returning from ghana last year. inspired to see such beauty come to life. in conjunction with the amazing non profit nest.
and, these brilliant ladies just announced their partnership with a new sewing cooperative who will be sewing all of Proud Mary's end products including pillows, bags, table linens, and accessories. Available in their online shop in NOVEMBER. oh, i can't wait to see what they're up to!!! (read about this beautiful initiative here)

its a gloomy kinda morning here in la la. and this week has been all about catching up on taxes, lots of bookkeeping for my client, and all that admin yucky stuff that you put off for a rainy day. with the weight of the work, gray skies & drizzle, i'm deeply submerged in the cave that is my home office. its dark, i've got my votivo red currant burning (my fave) and listening to this perfect podcast of bon iver's live show from the riverside theatre in milwaukee sunday night. thanks to 88Nine.
